Happy Valley Oregon, late afternoon in early August, i’m walking by the merch tables at Pickathon. i spot L.C. Ulmer chatting with a group of people and decided to stop.
his set was one of the best of the day. while listening to him play, the crowd had gone almost silent. i laid there looking up at the bright white and red tarps strung against the vivid blue sky and felt content.
he was a terrific player with wonderful energy, and i wanted to share my appreciation with him. in return, i got advice/encouragement about being a guitar player and mastering your instrument, found out about a biography that had been written about him, and he blew me a song. he said that he made it up right then for me, but i think he tells all the ladies that… still.
here’s a video that’s just been posted from Live & Breathing from the Pumphouse Sessions. enjoy!
